Image and video decision
Zenfolio
A capable developer can build a useful self-hosted gallery+store (uploads, galleries, search, Stripe) but fully replacing Zenfolio’s integrated lab relationships, enterprise infrastructure, Smart Pricing data, and decades of brand requires much more time and resources.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. What a replacement has to do
- Provide photographers a hosted site to upload images, create galleries, and sell prints/digital downloads.
What it still won’t have
- Integrated lab auto-fulfillment and lab relationships
- Decades of brand, trust, and customer base
- Managed enterprise-grade hosting, uptime SLAs and global CDN optimizations
- Built-in customer success and live support
- Proprietary datasets used by Smart Pricing and any bundled AI features
What remains hard
- Brand trust
Trusted by photographers for over 20 years .
- Infrastructure at scale
Zenfolio offers a complete solution from enterprise-grade infrastructure and business features to advanced SEO and marketing tools-enabling anyone to create and grow their photography business online.

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted photo gallery + store using React for the frontend, Node/Express for APIs, Postgres for metadata, Redis for background job queuing, and S3 (or S3-compatible) for image storage. Core features in scope: user auth and one-account-per-photographer; chunked image upload with resumable support and background workers to generate multiple thumbnails; gallery CRUD UI and template system to render public gallery pages; tag-based search and simple full-text search over titles/captions; product/price-list management, cart, and Stripe checkout + webhooks to record orders; admin dashboard for orders and basic analytics; deployable via Docker Compose or a simple Terraform+Cloud provider setup and served via CDN. Out of scope: integrated lab fulfillment, bundled AI pricing models, multi-region enterprise infra, and white-glove customer support. Include input validation, error handling, automated tests for APIs and key UI flows, and instrument basic uptime and error alerts.

How the score was reached

- An open-source build was found+5
- 6 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Hard moats found in the evidence-3
- Evidence score64
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
