Image and video decision

Vivify

A small, focused image-or-image-to-video generator is realistic to build by a capable developer using open-source model infra, but reproducing Vivify's full product (credits UX, face-swap, polished templates, team features, and scale) is substantial and better served by assembling prior-art projects rather than reimplementing everything from scratch.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Vivify alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • User enters prompt or uploads reference -> run generation model -> store result and present preview -> allow simple edit/variation -> export/download

What it still won’t have

  • Polished UX, templates, and prompt library
  • Scale and reliability of vendor-managed inference
  • Commercial credit-pack billing flow and Stripe integration polish
  • Team accounts, shared credits, and built-in API access
  • Ongoing moderation, legal, and support operations

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted Vivify-like service using Node.js + Express, React frontend, Redis Bull queue, PostgreSQL, and object storage (MinIO or S3). Core features in scope: prompt & reference-image upload UI, enqueue generation jobs, call a local inference endpoint (LocalAI or an HTTP model server) for text->image and image->video, store assets in object storage, show generation progress and preview, implement a simple credit counter per account, and a basic moderation check prior to enqueue. Out of scope: multi-seat team billing, advanced templates library, live face-swap orchestration, and a commercial credit-store checkout. Include error handling for failed jobs, retry logic, unit tests for API endpoints, and integration test for end-to-end job flow.

  • Evidence score67

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
