Image and video decision
Sufler - teleprompter
A capable developer can build a useful desktop teleprompter replacement (or run the open-source Flow project) for much lower cost, but reproducing the full iOS App Store product (mobile PiP over other apps, in‑app purchases, platform polish and distribution) is significantly harder, so keep paying if you need the mobile App Store experience.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Sufler - teleprompter alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Open or create a script → start autoscroll → record video (camera mode) or use PiP overlay → stop and export/save
What it still won’t have
- App Store distribution, reviews, and polished platform-specific UX for iPhone/iPad/Vision/Watch
- In‑app purchases and Apple subscription handling
- Mobile PiP integration that overlays other apps (platform restrictions and polish)
- Developer support and ongoing app updates pushed through App Store
- Any proprietary AI-script-generation or server-side features if present
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a lightweight cross-platform teleprompter desktop app using Tauri + React (TypeScript). Core features in scope: local script editor (create/open/save TXT/MD), autoscroll with adjustable speed/font/offset, always-on-top floating window for reading, camera preview and recording using getUserMedia (desktop), Bluetooth/keyboard remote controls, and local export of recorded video files. Out of scope: iOS App Store packaging, overlaying other iOS apps (mobile PiP over third-party apps), server-side subscription billing, and AI script-generation. Include error handling, unit/integration tests for core UI and file operations, and CI build scripts for macOS/Windows bundles.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 2 cited sources+1
- Evidence score58
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
