Social media decision

SocialClaw

A capable developer can build a useful self-hosted scheduler (API, media hosting, and workers) using existing open-source projects, but reproducing SocialClaw's broad platform coverage, agent/MCP integrations, and operational polish at scale is substantial—so build a narrow replacement for specific platforms or keep paying for full coverage.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All SocialClaw alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Accept workspace-authenticated schedule requests, host uploaded media, persist schedules, run scheduled publishing jobs that call platform APIs, and return publish status via an API.

What it still won’t have

  • Coverage and maintenance of connectors to 10+ platforms and platform-specific edge-case handling
  • Hosted MCP/agent integrations and prebuilt agent skills
  • Built-in analytics and multi-account workspace features at scale
  • Operational reliability, retries, and resume behavior tuned by the vendor

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted social publishing service using: Node.js + Express for API, PostgreSQL for storage, BullMQ (Redis) for job queue, AWS S3 (or MinIO) for media hosting, and a small React admin UI. Core features in scope: workspace key-based API auth, endpoints to connect and store platform credentials (OAuth/token), media upload endpoint storing files to S3, schedule validation endpoint that enforces per-platform basic constraints, worker that dequeues scheduled posts and calls platform publish adapters (implement adapters for X, Instagram, and LinkedIn), retry and error handling with exponential backoff, and CLI tool to validate/apply schedule files. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing, AI content generation, a full MCP server, and analytics dashboards. Include unit tests for API endpoints, integration tests for worker publish flow (mock platform APIs), and error handling/logging for failed publishes.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
