Social media decision
TryPost.it
Self-hosting is practical: TryPost publishes its own AGPL repo so a technical user can deploy and run the platform instead of paying, trading hosted credits, managed MCP servers, and vendor support for operational work.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All TryPost.it alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Schedule posts from one visual calendar, publish via network APIs, generate captions/images with an LLM, store media and posts in a database, run background jobs to publish and fetch analytics.
What it still won’t have
- 2,500 AI credits per workspace (hosted, pooled) as listed on TryPost pricing
- Chat and email support included with hosted plan
- Managed MCP server integrations (hosted agent endpoints)
- Hosted SLA, uptime, and operational monitoring from TryPost
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hostable TryPost-compatible social media scheduler using Node.js (Express) + React, Postgres for data, Redis for jobs, and Docker. Core features in scope: OAuth/connectors for Instagram/X/TikTok (publish & revoke), visual calendar with drag-and-drop, post composer with per-network previews, background scheduler/worker with retries, media storage on S3-compatible bucket, and AI caption/image generation via OpenAI (configurable). Out of scope: implementing MCP agent network, every network connector beyond the three listed, and commercial-grade analytics aggregation. Include config-driven credentials, migrations, background job tests, error handling for failed publishes, and integration tests for end-to-end scheduling and publishing.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Self-host verdict base92
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 1/1 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score99
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
