RTMPS.IO
A competent technical user can build a useful RTMPS streaming replacement in about a week by deploying mature open-source media servers (SRS or MediaMTX) and wiring storage, TLS, CDN, and basic admin UI; you give up the vendor SLA, global ops, and turnkey enterprise polish.

Not priced
No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All RTMPS.IO alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Ingest secure RTMP(S) from broadcasters, package/transcode to HLS/LL-HLS/WebRTC, record streams to cloud storage, authenticate/authorize publishers and playback clients, and expose metrics + basic dashboard for stream health.
What it still won’t have
- Commercial SLA, enterprise support, and an audited uptime guarantee
- Global autoscaling and multi-region failover out of the box
- DDoS protection and carrier-grade peering/egress optimizations
- Polished multi-tenant dashboard, billing, and usage analytics
- Legal/compliance packaging and responsibilities the vendor may provide
What remains hard
- Execution quality
We design, build, and operate production-grade SaaS platforms, streaming infrastructure, and complex software systems for businesses where failure is not an option.

Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hosted RTMPS streaming service using MediaMTX (or SRS) on Debian/Ubuntu. Stack: MediaMTX (or SRS) media server, Nginx (reverse proxy + TLS via Let's Encrypt), object storage (S3-compatible, e.g., DigitalOcean Spaces or AWS S3), Prometheus + Grafana for metrics, and an Express (Node.js) admin API backed by SQLite for stream keys. In scope: secure RTMP(S) ingest endpoints, packaging to HLS/LL-HLS, optional WebRTC passthrough, recording streams to S3, minimal web dashboard to create/delete stream keys and view live stream status, Prometheus metrics and Grafana dashboard, CDN integration for HLS segment delivery, TLS setup and basic CI/deploy scripts. Out of scope: multi-region autoscaling, carrier-grade peering, commercial SLA/billing, advanced multi-bitrate transcoding pipelines. Provide error handling, unit/integration tests for the admin API, and deployment scripts (systemd or Docker Compose) plus a runbook for common recovery steps.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score90
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
