Social media decision

Propelr

A competent developer can build a usable LinkedIn post generator+scheduler (narrow workflow) within a few weeks, but reproducing a polished, reliable hosted product with multi-account robustness, analytics, and support is larger scope and better served by the paid product.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Propelr alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Generate LinkedIn-style posts with an LLM, let the user edit/approve, and schedule posts to publish to LinkedIn accounts.

What it still won’t have

  • Polished hosted UI/UX and onboarding
  • Reliable long-running hosted scheduling with retries and monitoring
  • Multi-account, team, and enterprise integrations and support
  • Built-in analytics and optimizations specific to LinkedIn
  • Legal/terms handling and ongoing updates for LinkedIn API changes

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a self-hosted minimal AI LinkedIn post generator + scheduler using Next.js (React) for the frontend, Node.js/Express for the API, Postgres for storage, and a worker (BullMQ or node-cron) for scheduling. Integrate OpenAI (or another LLM) for draft generation. Implement LinkedIn posting via the official LinkedIn API when available and fallback to Playwright-based browser automation for accounts without API access. Core features in scope: user sign-in, connect one LinkedIn account, generate drafts from a prompt/profile, edit & preview drafts, schedule posts, background worker to publish at scheduled times with retry and basic logging. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing, analytics dashboards, team permissions, enterprise SLAs. Include error handling, input validation, and unit tests for the API and worker.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Evidence score60

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
