Prompt Master

A competent engineer can reproduce the core prompt-enhanced image-generation workflow in about a week using third-party generation APIs; the commercial product's polish, curated assets, and hosting SLAs are what you'd give up.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Prompt Master alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Accept a user seed (text or reference image), rewrite/augment the prompt, send the prompt to an image-generation API, store and serve resulting images, and provide simple UI for browsing/downloading.

What it still won’t have

  • Proprietary curated image assets or exclusive style pack licensing
  • Polish of a commercial hosted UI, onboarding flows, and customer support
  • Any bundled or proprietary backend optimizations and operational SLAs

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted Prompt-MVSTR replacement using Node.js (Express) + React, Postgres, and S3-compatible storage. In scope: (1) a React single-page app to accept text and optional reference image, show and edit a generated prompt, and display a gallery of results; (2) an Express backend with endpoints to (a) accept uploads and save metadata to Postgres, (b) call a third-party image-generation API (configurable via env vars) with the final prompt, (c) save resulting images to S3 and return metadata; (3) a prompt-enhancement service endpoint that rewrites/promotes prompts (can integrate the open-source PromptEnhancer project or a lightweight JS prompt template engine); (4) basic user auth (single admin API key) and error handling; (5) automated tests for API endpoints and critical UI flows, and Dockerfiles for local development. Out of scope: building a custom image-generation model, multi-tenant billing, advanced image postprocessing pipelines, and scaling to high concurrency.

How the score was reached

  • Evidence score86

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
