Image and video decision
proclips.app
A competent developer can build a usable clip-and-post workflow using existing tools and open-source editors, but reproducing the production polish, multi-platform integrations, and tuned AI that a paid service offers is multi-week work and likely not worth fully replacing for most users.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All proclips.app alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Upload or ingest a long-form video → detect highlight segments → render trimmed clips → schedule/post clips to social platforms
What it still won’t have
- Polish and UX refinements (timeline editing, multi-track fine edits, polished onboarding)
- High-quality proprietary highlight models tuned to creators' content
- Robust, maintained integrations and edge-case handling for many social platforms
- SLA'd support, uptime guarantees, and scaling for many concurrent users
- Brand, discoverability, and existing user base
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal AI video clipping and auto-posting service using Node.js (Express) backend, Postgres for metadata, S3-compatible storage for videos, React frontend, and ffmpeg + editly for trimming. Core features in scope: (1) upload or accept video URLs and store originals, (2) run a transcription/highlight detector to generate candidate clip timestamps, (3) render trimmed clips (mp4) and store outputs, (4) UI to review, edit timestamps, and schedule posts, (5) connectors to post clips to one social API (YouTube or Twitter) with retry and webhook handling. Out of scope: multi-platform marketplace, paid billing, multi-tenant enterprise scaling, training new ML models. Include error handling, background job retries, unit and integration tests for ingestion, rendering, and posting flows.

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score64
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
