PostShip

A competent technical user can recreate the core: generate platform-specific posts in a learned writing style using an LLM and a small web app; hosted distribution and scheduling are the main things you'd give up.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All PostShip alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Paste an idea or product URL → model generates multiple platform-specific posts in a learned writing style → present editable posts for publish/schedule.

What it still won’t have

  • Hosted distribution (auto-posting / queue & publish) — PostShip handles publishing to X/LinkedIn/Reddit
  • Content calendar and drag-to-reschedule UI planned in roadmap
  • Image attachment automation and simple screenshots integration
  • Built-in lifetime account and vendor-managed scheduling reliability

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a self-hostable PostShip-like app using Next.js + TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Vercel/Railway. Core features in scope: (1) URL fetcher that extracts title, excerpt, and notable lines; (2) user account and simple project model with storage of 3–10 sample posts per writing style; (3) LLM integration (OpenAI-compatible) that generates 3 platform-specific variants (X, LinkedIn, Reddit) from a pasted idea or URL using K-shot prompts derived from stored samples; (4) web UI to preview, edit, and save generated posts; (5) persistence in Postgres and basic migrations; (6) deployment scripts for Vercel (frontend) and Railway (Postgres). Out of scope: automatic cross-platform publishing/scheduling, content calendar, image automation, and long-form article generation. Include error handling for network/LLM failures, input validation, and unit tests for core generation and storage logic.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
