Image and video decision

Photo AI

A single developer can reproduce a useful subset (self-hosted persona creation + image generation via open-source engines) in about a week, but Photo AI's proprietary video model, curated photo packs, performance, and enterprise polish are not practically reproducible without substantial GPU/model work and licenses.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Photo AI alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Upload a set of selfies to create an AI model, then request generated photos/videos from that model using prompts and download/manage results.

What it still won’t have

  • Proprietary Seedance 2.5 video model and any bespoke in-house tuned models
  • Photo packs, curated prompt collections, and built-in commercial licensing handling
  • Ultra performance, parallel generation limits and priority response times of paid tiers
  • Enterprise features like unlimited storage and advanced relighting/combination tooling

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted Photo-AI-like service using Next.js (React) frontend, Node.js + Express backend, Postgres for metadata, S3-compatible storage for assets, and Docker-hosted InvokeAI or AUTOMATIC1111 stable-diffusion-webui for generation. Core features: user signup/login, upload 5–15 selfies to create a persona, enqueue a training/provisioning job (or tag images for the backend), a prompt UI to request image generations and view/download results, plan-based limits, and Stripe subscription integration (one paid tier). Out of scope: reimplementing large-scale proprietary video models, custom model training pipelines at GPU scale, and multi-tenant enterprise admin. Include error handling, retries for generation jobs, background worker (Redis + Bull), and unit/integration tests for upload, generation-request, and billing flows.

  • Evidence score63

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
