Image and video decision
Melies
A capable engineer can build a useful, limited replacement for core generation and assembly workflows, but reproducing Melies' large actor library, multi-model integrations, polished UX, credited model catalog, and 4K-ready production features would be costly and time-consuming.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Melies alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Accept an idea/script, generate assets (images/video/audio) via model APIs, assemble clips with consistent actor faces, store assets, and return rendered clips via a simple UI or CLI while decrementing user credits.
What it still won’t have
- Large curated library of 150+ ready-to-use AI actors
- Out-of-the-box access to 50+ or 30+ integrated models with per-model credit accounting
- Polished product UX, priority queueing, and concurrent generation limits (1/3/8)
- Commercial/terms bundling and any negotiated model access or early-access models
- Built-in 4K-ready generation and curated visual-styles catalog
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal AI filmmaking replacement using Node.js + Express backend, Postgres for metadata, S3-compatible object storage, BullMQ (Redis) job queue, and a small React web UI plus a CLI wrapper. Core features in scope: (1) user signup and simple credit balance, (2) integrate 2–3 external generation APIs (image, short video, voice) with configurable model IDs, (3) enqueue generation jobs, fetch results and store assets in S3, (4) basic actor-consistency using face embeddings stored per actor and applied to model prompts, (5) download rendered clips and view credit usage. Out of scope: multi-model catalog UI, curated actor marketplace, fine-grained commercial licensing, 4K pipeline, and advanced visual-style library. Include error handling, retries, logging, and basic unit and integration tests for API endpoints and job workers.

- Evidence score63
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
