Image and video decision
Gluely AI
A competent developer can recreate a useful subset (avatar/photo generation, basic templates, export) using available open-source projects, but the full product experience (iOS app polish, curated viral templates, proprietary tuned models and scale) is expensive to match, so building a limited replacement is realistic while replicating the full paid product is not.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Gluely AI alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Upload a face photo, pick a trending template/style, run model inference to produce image(s) or short vertical video, edit trim/captions on a timeline, export to camera roll.
What it still won’t have
- App Store-level mobile polish, reviews, and discoverability (iOS native app flow)
- Curated, frequently-updated template marketplace and trend monitoring
- Proprietary premium models and tuned pipelines (Veo, Kling integrations named on site)
- Built-in one-tap mobile video export and in-app subscription management via App Store
- Scale, analytics, moderation, and user-safety operations at production volume
What remains hard
- Brand trust

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal web service + single-page editor that reproduces Gluely's core: stack Node.js (Express) backend + PostgreSQL for user/credits + React frontend + FFmpeg for video assembly + a small GPU inference host running Hugging Face diffusers-compatible models (or host via local Triton). Implement: (1) user photo upload with face detection and persistent face embedding, (2) template-to-prompt mapper and credit cost calculator, (3) inference endpoint that runs an image or image-to-video diffusion model and produces 9:16 frames, (4) a basic timeline editor (trim, text overlays, export MP4), (5) credit/accounting and generation history. Out of scope: native iOS app, App Store subscriptions, large-scale moderation pipeline, multi-tenant billing. Include tests for upload/face detection, prompt mapping, and inference orchestration; add error handling for model failures, storage errors, and rate limiting; provide Docker compose and a deployment README for a single-GPU host.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
