Image and video decision
Extract Frames
A single developer can reproduce the core functionality (client-side frame extraction and download) in a weekend; the product's value is implementation polish and hosting rather than proprietary data or hard-to-reproduce infrastructure.

Not priced
No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.
$20one-off12 h to build
$0/mo1 h/mo upkeep
No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- User opens a static web page, drops or selects a video, previews/scrubs it, chooses extraction settings (interval or timestamps), extracts frames client-side, and downloads frames as images or a ZIP.
What it still won’t have
- Polished cross-browser UX and accessibility polish
- Robust large-file handling and server-side codec/transcoding support
- Analytics, usage dashboards, and paid-product polish (billing, helpdesk)
- Branding, marketing, and an existing user base
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance
First-year cost
No published price
Extract Frames does not publish a price we could read, so there is nothing to compare against. What building costs is below.

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a client-side frame-extraction web app using React + TypeScript, Vite, HTML5 <video>/<canvas>, and JSZip. Core features in scope: drag-and-drop or file picker for MP4/MOV/AVI/WebM, video preview with scrubber, choose extraction mode (every N seconds or per-frame), extract frames via canvas at requested timestamps, show extraction progress, allow selecting frames and export as individual images or a single ZIP, and trigger download. Out of scope: server-side transcoding, authenticated billing, multi-user backend, and complex analytics. Require graceful error handling for unsupported codecs and large files, unit/integration tests for extraction logic, and CI deploy to a static host (Netlify/Vercel).
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- 2 cited sources+1
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score83
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
