Image and video decision
Elai.io
A single developer can build a narrow text→avatar talking-head renderer using open-source components (TTS + Wav2Lip + ffmpeg) but reproducing Elai’s full product (avatar library, voice-clone polish, translations, enterprise features, and UI polish) is large and operationally intensive, so keeping the paid product makes sense for teams needing scale or enterprise capabilities.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Convert text (or PPTX/URL) + voice into a talking-head/video render and deliver downloadable video
What it still won’t have
- Large curated avatar library and premium avatar/animation assets
- Polished UI/UX and editor features (AI Storyboard, templates)
- Enterprise features: SSO, SOC2, unlimited/enterprise SLA, premium support
- Scale, reliability, and optimized rendering performance of a commercial service
- Integrated commercial voice cloning and premium voices
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal AI talking-head video generator using Node.js (Express) + React admin/editor, Postgres, and S3 for storage. In scope: accept a text script or PPTX, run TTS (cloud or open-source) to produce audio, run Wav2Lip/face-animation to synchronize an avatar image/video with audio, assemble slides and transitions with ffmpeg, produce downloadable MP4, implement an API endpoint to create/render jobs, simple web editor to preview and trigger renders, user auth, minutes/credits tracking in Postgres, and background worker (Bull/Redis) for rendering jobs. Out of scope: building a large avatar marketplace, enterprise SSO, SOC2 compliance, premium voice training studio. Include error handling for failed render jobs, retries for transient failures, and unit/integration tests for API and render worker.

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 5 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
