Postopus

A competent engineer can build a narrow self-hosted scheduler/editor for one user (core flows) within a multi-week effort, but reproducing the polished UI, broad connector coverage, reliability and commercial polish of the paid product is substantial work.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Postopus alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Compose a post once, preview per-platform, schedule it, and publish via platform APIs.

What it still won’t have

  • Polished editor UX and cross-platform preview fidelity
  • Maintained, reliable connector coverage and handling of platform API quirks
  • Built-in team/collaboration features with role management
  • Commercial support, SLA, and ongoing product updates
  • One-click onboarding and billing/checkout flows

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal Postopus-like scheduler using Next.js (React) frontend, a Node.js (Express) API, PostgreSQL for storage, Redis for queues, and a worker process for scheduled publishes. In scope: (1) an editor to create and save drafts with emoji support, (2) per-platform preview templates for LinkedIn and X, (3) OAuth-based account linking and secure token storage, (4) scheduling UI and a worker that enqueues and posts via platform APIs at the scheduled time, (5) simple dashboard listing scheduled/published posts and basic per-post success/failure status. Out of scope: advanced analytics, team/collaboration roles, a LinkedIn carousel converter, payments/billing, and mobile apps. Include error handling for failed posts with retries, logging, automated tests for API endpoints and worker logic, and Docker-based deployment scripts.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
