Codex QR

A single developer can reproduce the core cloud features (dynamic QR, short links, analytics) in about a week, but the complete product — polished native desktop apps, offline scanner, and enterprise licensing — is outside that scope.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Create a dynamic QR code, store its short link and destination, render downloadable QR image, and record each redirect/scan for analytics.

What it still won’t have

  • Native desktop apps for 100% offline scanning and system integrations (screenshot scanner, Continuity Camera)
  • Polished multi-platform UX and longstanding product polish (3M+ downloads, desktop optimizations)
  • Built-in cqr.la short-link infrastructure and any established enterprise billing/volume licensing flows
  • Advanced batch image/PDF processing optimizations and platform-specific performance tweaks

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a minimal dynamic QR web service using Node.js (Express), Postgres, and node-qrcode. In scope: REST UI to create/edit/delete QR records, short URL generation (cqr-like domain), PNG/SVG QR image generation, redirect endpoint that logs scan events (timestamp, user-agent, IP->geo), edit-after-print (update destination without changing short link), PBKDF2-SHA512 password protection for QR records, CSV export of analytics, and tests for core flows. Out of scope: native desktop apps, OCR/screenshot scanner, advanced visual QR designer, multi-tenant billing. Deploy to a single VPS (DigitalOcean/AWS Lightsail), run Postgres managed or on the same VPS, serve HTTPS via Let's Encrypt, include error handling, input validation, rate-limiting, and automated unit/integration tests.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • Price verified on pricing page+3
  • Evidence score56

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
