Image and video decision

Blog2Video

A basic Blog→Video generator (short social clips) is realistic for one technical person to build and run; the vendor's hosted polish, integrations, and any proprietary models are what you'd give up.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Blog2Video alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Fetch a blog post, extract structured content, generate or select visuals per segment, synthesize speech for narration, assemble a timeline and render/export a short video, and provide download/upload delivery.

What it still won’t have

  • proprietary hosted UX polish and workflow optimizations
  • any closed-source, proprietary models or optimizations the vendor may use
  • built-in integrations with platform partners or social scheduling
  • scale, moderation, and copyright/DMCA handling

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a minimal Blog→Short-Video generator: implement a Python Flask backend + a lightweight React UI, use an SQLite job DB and Redis for queueing. Core features: (1) accept a public blog URL and parse title/headings/paragraphs and images, (2) call an image-generation API (eg. Stable Diffusion/Replicate) to produce visuals for each paragraph, (3) call a TTS API (eg. ElevenLabs/OpenAI TTS) to synthesize narration per segment, (4) assemble video segments with overlays and transitions and render MP4 using FFmpeg, (5) provide progress UI and downloadable MP4s, (6) simple logging and retry on failed API calls. Out of scope: distributed scaling, analytics dashboard, multi-user billing, and proprietary model training. Include error handling, retry/backoff for API calls, input validation, and unit tests for parsing, job lifecycle, and render output.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Evidence score86

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
