No-code apps and databases decision
Caspio
A small technical team can build a usable CRUD/forms+reports replacement (open-source building blocks exist), but Caspio's compliant hosting, signed BAA, managed backups/SLA and polished visual builder are durable differentiators that are expensive and time-consuming to replicate.
Visit website↗Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Store structured data, expose CRUD forms and searchable reports to users, enforce authentication/roles, and run automations/background tasks against the data.
What it still won’t have
- Turnkey visual drag-and-drop app builder and no-code design surface
- Managed, audited HIPAA-compliant hosting and signed BAA
- Built-in enterprise features (24/7 support, SLA, automated snap backups)
- Marketplace of app blocks and managed professional services
- Unlimited-user commercial packaging and built-in AI connectors
What remains hard
- Compliance and regulation
Signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA)
- Infrastructure at scale
Applications run on Microsoft SQL Server hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), providing a scalable, enterprise-grade foundation for HIPAA-compliant healthcare software.

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted Caspio-like service using PostgreSQL, Node.js (Express) and a React frontend (create-react-app). In scope: database schema + migrations, REST API with JWT auth and role-based access control, a React CRUD UI that can render generic forms from JSON schema, server-side search and paginated reports, background job runner (Bull/Redis) for scheduled automations, webhooks, Docker Compose deployment, automated daily backups, basic monitoring (Prometheus metrics + Grafana) and unit/integration tests. Out of scope: visual drag-and-drop designer, multi-tenant enterprise SLA, signed BAA/HIPAA attestation, global CDN for FileStor, and built-in AI connectors. Provide error handling, input validation, OpenAPI docs for the API, and CI that runs tests and linters.

How the score was reached

- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Hard moats found in the evidence-6
- Evidence score57
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
