Design and diagrams decision

VistaCreate

A small team can recreate a useful template-based editor and AI integrations (prior-art exists), but VistaCreate's large proprietary asset collection and template catalogue are durable advantages that a DIY replacement won't match.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Select a template or blank canvas, edit visuals and text in a web editor (layers, images, stickers, animated text), optionally call an image/text-generation API, then export/download or schedule/post the result.

What it still won’t have

  • Large proprietary asset library (170M+ photos/videos/vectors)
  • Extensive professionally-designed template catalogue (200K+ templates)
  • Built-in team seats, scheduling, and print fulfillment integrations
  • Polish and performance of a mature WYSIWYG editor and version history

What remains hard

  • Content rightsCreative Assets: 170M+ photos, videos, and vectors
  • Proprietary data200K+ professionally-designed templates

Build a minimal web-based template-first graphic editor using Next.js (13+), React, Konva (or Fabric.js) for canvas, Postgres for metadata, S3-compatible storage and Cloudflare (or similar) CDN. Implement: (1) user auth (email OAuth), (2) template storage and browser loader (JSON templates), (3) WYSIWYG editor supporting layers, text, images, basic animations, and export to PNG/JPEG (MP4 optional), (4) asset upload/serve with thumbnails, (5) AI hooks to call an external image-generation API and a text-generation API and insert results into the canvas, (6) simple billing stub (flag Pro feature) but leave payment provider integration optional. Out of scope: building a multi-million asset library, print fulfillment, enterprise SSO, or collaborative real-time editing. Include error handling, input validation, unit tests for core services, and an end-to-end smoke test that creates a design and exports it.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
