Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Vedeggio alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Import transaction data, store normalized transactions, categorize and summarize spending, show basic reports/dashboards.
What it still won’t have
- Proprietary bank integrations or aggregator connectors
- Branded support and SLA
- Polished mobile apps or third-party platform integrations
- Any closed-source analytics or hosted features the vendor may offer
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hosted personal finance web app using Node.js (Express) + Postgres + React. In scope: user authentication (single-user support), CSV/OFX import and normalization pipeline, relational schema for accounts/transactions/categories, transaction listing with search and category edit, basic reports (monthly spending by category), background job to import/reconcile recurring transactions, CSV export endpoint, logging, error handling, and unit/integration tests. Out of scope: bank connector integrations (Plaid/Ynab/etc.), mobile native apps, multi-tenant SaaS billing. Provide Docker Compose for local deployment, migrations, and a short README with run and backup instructions.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score64
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
