Valycode
A single competent developer can reproduce the core functionality (one-shot prompt library + provider calls) in about a week; there are no durable moats evident from the supplied page to prevent DIY.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Valycode alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Select a prompt template → send to model provider API → receive and display model output → save prompt/output to library
What it still won’t have
- Proprietary curated prompt catalog and vendor UX
- Hosted multi-provider reliability and scaling
- Official integrations or bundled provider access
- Vendor support and product updates
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance
First-year cost

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a lightweight self-hosted prompt-runner using PostgreSQL, Node.js (Express) backend, and React frontend. Core features: store and edit prompt templates, securely save provider API keys (use environment variables or Vault), run a prompt against a configurable model provider endpoint, display and persist input/output history, and a minimal user interface for selecting and running one-shot prompts. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing, advanced analytics, and training proprietary models. Include input validation, retries for provider calls, basic access control, unit tests for backend logic, and end-to-end tests for the run flow.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score90
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
