Ultramock

A competent developer can build and run a minimal Ultramock-like service in about one week; the main value of the hosted product is its curated templates and polish, which are practical to forgo or grow later.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Ultramock alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Upload screenshots, map them into device/mockup templates, render exported high-res image files, download/share results

What it still won’t have

  • Large curated premium template library and frequent template updates
  • Polished brand, marketing, and onboarding flows of the hosted product
  • Built-in team or enterprise features (collaboration, billing)
  • Any proprietary optimizations for photorealistic 3D mockups

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal Ultramock replacement as a single-developer web app using Next.js (React) for frontend, Node.js + Express for a small API, and S3-compatible object storage for template and upload hosting. Core features in scope: 1) image upload with client-side validation and server-side checks; 2) template store supporting device/frame PNG assets and slot metadata; 3) an image-composition service that composites an uploaded screenshot into a selected template and outputs high-resolution PNG; 4) frontend UI to choose templates, preview composed result, and download/export; 5) basic session-based user flow and simple admin UI to add templates. Out of scope: multi-user billing, team collaboration, advanced 3D rendering, and marketplace/template store. Include error handling for invalid files and failed renders, automated unit tests for API endpoints, and end-to-end tests for the primary upload→render→download flow.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score88

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
