Steady - Fear of Flying

A single engineer can implement the core turbulence-forecast + offline calming tools and ship an iOS app, but reproducing the community MonitorBuddy and polished live radar/flight-tracking experience at production quality (and App Store monetization polish) is non-trivial and likely justifies keeping the paid product for those features.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Enter route or flight → get route-specific turbulence forecast from NOAA data → preload offline calming audio/exercises → (optionally) post flight to community monitor.

What it still won’t have

  • The community MonitorBuddy experience and live encouragement feed
  • Polished in-app purchase flow and App Store distribution polish
  • A refined live radar/map with production-grade position smoothing and global flight tracking
  • The exact branded UX polish, analytics, and incremental product improvements from the vendor

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal iOS SwiftUI app with a small Vapor (or Node/Express) backend. Core features in scope: (1) route input by flight number or manual FROM/TO, (2) server-side ingestion of NOAA PIREP and SIGMET data and an algorithm that produces a per-segment turbulence score and a confidence percentage, (3) an iOS UI showing the route, a timeline chart of segment turbulence, and a flight history, (4) offline-bundled guided breathing audio and a 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise with haptics, and (5) local persistence for flight history and bravery passes. Out of scope: full social MonitorBuddy feed, global production flight-tracking contracts, and App Store in-app purchase complexity beyond a single subscription SKU. Require error handling, input validation, unit tests for the forecast synthesis logic, integration tests for NOAA ingestion, and basic CI to run tests and linting.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
