RemoteWeek

A single developer can build a functional job-board with search, rating enrichment, and alerts (a useful subset), but reproducing RemoteWeek's scale, audience, and any proprietary curation/vetting is not realistic without ongoing operations and marketing.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Crawl or ingest remote job listings, enrich with company Glassdoor rating, index jobs for search and filters, render job listing pages with external apply links, and send job-alert notifications to users.

What it still won’t have

  • Scale and uptime guarantees of a maintained public job board
  • Continuous high-volume aggregator feed and aggregator partnerships
  • Brand trust and existing audience/SEO
  • Any proprietary vetting/curation processes not documented on the site

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Build a lightweight remote-job board using Node.js (Express), Postgres, and an optional ElasticSearch index; deploy to a single small cloud VM (eg. DigitalOcean) behind nginx. In scope: (1) job ingestion endpoint + simple scraper that accepts JSON job posts or pulls from public job RSS, (2) company enrichment step that stores a numeric rating field, (3) Postgres schema with deduplication and basic migrations, (4) search/filter API supporting title, location, job type, and minimum company rating, (5) React frontend with listing pages, job detail pages that link to external apply URLs, (6) user email-alerts using SendGrid, and (7) tests for ingestion, dedupe, and search plus basic error handling and logging. Out of scope: large-scale crawling, paid posting UI, advanced SEO/content marketing, and proprietary vetting workflows. Include automated tests, CI deploy script, and basic monitoring/alerts.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • Evidence score53

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
