SeniorTalk

A technically capable user can build a useful voice/text companion (web + Twilio + TTS/STT + persona prompts) using open-source projects, but reproducing SeniorTalk's telco integrations, production phone-number footprint, polished personas, and any analytics/health features is larger and operationally intensive.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All SeniorTalk alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • User sends/receives text or voice messages; the system transcribes/generates speech, maintains a persona-aware chat state, and can proactively start conversations.

What it still won’t have

  • Owned domestic phone number inventory and telco relationships for low-cost local calling
  • Polish of production personas, content moderation and safety tuning
  • Turnkey smart-speaker / landline compatibility testing and support
  • Any proprietary analytics pipeline the vendor may run (dementia detection/health signals)

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted SeniorTalk replacement using React frontend, Node.js/Express backend, Postgres, and Docker. Core features in scope: (1) receive SMS/WhatsApp via Twilio webhook and place outbound calls/SMS, (2) STT/TTS using a cloud model (OpenAI/GG) or local open models, (3) persona management (selectable templates stored in DB) and persona-aware prompt construction, (4) scheduled 'conversation starter' jobs, (5) simple admin UI to register users and view conversation logs, (6) authentication, input validation, error handling, logging, and unit/integration tests. Out of scope: production-scale telephony number provisioning, clinical-grade dementia/health analytics, and multi-tenant billing. Deliver Docker compose, README with deploy steps, CI test run, and sample env file.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
