Design and diagrams decision
Rgbtopantone
A single developer can build and host a minimal RGB→Pantone converter in about a week; there are no evident durable moats and open-source color tools exist as prior art, so building is reasonable.

Not priced
No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.
$50one-off20 h to build
$0/mo1 h/mo upkeep
No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Enter RGB → compute nearest Pantone match → preview color → copy/export result.
What it still won’t have
- Hosted uptime, CDN, and built-in cross-device serving provided by the commercial site
- Any proprietary or curated Pantone dataset updates the vendor may push
- The product's existing UI polish, related tools and bundled mini-games listed on the site
- Privacy-friendly analytics integration (the site notes a specific analytics provider)
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance
First-year cost
No published price
Rgbtopantone does not publish a price we could read, so there is nothing to compare against. What building costs is below.

Runnable build prompt
Build a single-page RGB→Pantone converter using a static Jamstack stack: React (Vite), TypeScript, and deploy to Vercel or Netlify. Core features in scope: load a bundled JSON Pantone palette, accept RGB inputs and sliders, compute color distance using Delta E (or Euclidean) to find the top 5 nearest Pantone matches, show HEX/RGB and a live preview swatch for each match, allow copying Pantone/HEX to clipboard and exporting the top match as JSON. Out of scope: training models, paid account billing, user logins, or analytics beyond a single privacy-friendly event collector. Require input validation, accessible UI, unit tests for conversion/matching logic, and end-to-end tests for the main flow; include error handling for malformed inputs and a CI pipeline to run tests and linting.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- 3 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score85
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
