QuizWhizzer

A small team or capable developer can recreate a useful subset (live quizzes, join codes, AI question gen, basic reporting) using existing open-source projects, but reproducing QuizWhizzer's polish, scalability, media features, and multi-year product polish is non-trivial.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Host a live quiz session, players join with a code, serve questions in real time, track scoring and streaks, save reports/export results.

What it still won’t have

  • Polish of UI/UX and custom maps/power-up animations
  • Scale-tested real-time infrastructure for large concurrent games
  • Integrated support, SLAs, and polished onboarding flows
  • Large curated question bank and marketplace of quizzes
  • Built-in hosting of media assets and avatar pack management

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a minimal QuizWhizzer replacement: use Next.js for frontend and API routes, Postgres (Supabase) for data, Socket.IO (hosted on Render) for real-time game state, and OpenAI (or interchangeable LLM) for AI question generation. Core features in scope: teacher UI to create/save quizzes and question bank; start live game sessions with unique join codes; player web client to join and answer; real-time leaderboard and scoring with streaks and simple power-ups; AI question generation endpoint; CSV/Excel export of reports; authentication for teachers (email). Out of scope: advanced custom map editor, large-media asset hosting, multi-tenant billing, mobile apps. Include error handling, input validation, unit tests for scoring logic, and basic integration tests for the join/game flow.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • Price verified on pricing page+3
  • Evidence score55

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
