A small team or capable engineer can build a one-user replacement in about a week; the product's value is mostly polished templates, extensions, and UX rather than unreplicable data or infrastructure.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Capture a webpage or upload an image, apply a template/preset and brand colors, adjust annotations/frames in an editor canvas, export a high-resolution image (WebP/SVG).

What it still won’t have

  • Polished, curated library of dozens of mockup templates and preset styles
  • Official Chrome and VSCode extensions and their integration convenience
  • Top‑tier UX polish, ongoing product improvements, and dedicated support
  • Built-in Pika API access and managed scaling

What remains hard

  • Execution qualityDozens of mockup templates

Build a lightweight Pika-style screenshot & mockup web app using React for the editor UI, Node.js/Express for the API, Puppeteer running on a small server for webpage rendering, Postgres for storing templates and presets, and Vercel or DigitalOcean for hosting. Core features in scope: (1) HTTP endpoint to request webpage screenshots (Puppeteer) with configurable viewport and device frames, (2) React editor that composes templates, background, frames, annotations and brand color presets on a canvas, (3) export high-resolution WebP/PNG and SVG, (4) CRUD API for presets/templates stored in Postgres, (5) authentication for one user, CI/CD, and CDN for static assets. Out of scope: Chrome/VSCode extensions, multi-tenant billing/subscriptions, embeddable Pika API product. Include error handling, input validation, unit and integration tests, and a Dockerfile for production deployment.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Price verified on pricing page+3
  • Evidence score84

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
