Email and newsletters decision
Newton Mail
A capable developer can implement a narrow web-based email client with scheduling, snooze, templates, and basic integrations, but reproducing Newton’s polished cross-platform native apps, collaboration features, and production-hardened mail-sync across many providers is a larger effort best avoided if you need the full product.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Send, receive, and manage email for one account; schedule sends, snooze messages, use templates, and save messages to external apps.
What it still won’t have
- Native desktop and mobile apps with OS-level push and polish
- Established brand, cross-platform packaging, and commercial support
- Prebuilt activity log and team email-collaboration features
- Polished inbox performance and edge-case handling across many providers
- Single-vendor reliability and curated integrations
What remains hard
- Brand trust

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a web-based email client using React (frontend), Node/Express (backend), Postgres (data), and a worker queue (Bull) for background jobs. In scope: OAuth for Gmail, IMAP/SMTP generic account support, threaded inbox UI, compose with templates, send-later scheduling, snooze, basic read-receipts, a simple rules engine (auto-label/archive/forward), and one-click export integrations to Todoist/Trello/Asana. Out of scope: native Android/iOS/macOS/Windows packaged apps, enterprise team admin UI, and end-to-end encryption. Include error handling, retries for mail sync, rate-limit handling for provider APIs, and unit/integration tests for auth, mail sync, scheduling, and integrations.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score64
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
