Mockupanda

A single competent developer can build and operate a useful self-hosted mockup generator using existing open-source image-editor libraries and standard rendering tools; the vendor's curated template library, polish, and support are what you'd give up.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Mockupanda alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Upload artwork → apply template mapping to artwork (perspective/skew/mask) → render final images → download/zip

What it still won’t have

  • Polished commercial template library and curated mockups
  • Priority support and SLA
  • Built-in AI credits/features and hosted watermark-free exports
  • The product's branded UI/UX polish and marketplace trust

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal mockup generator using React for the frontend, Node.js + Express for the API, Fabric.js (or tui.image-editor) for in-browser template preview/transform, and a server-side renderer using Puppeteer or node-canvas to composite high-resolution JPEGs. Core features in scope: artwork upload (PNG/JPEG/WebP) and optional PSD Smart Object handling, template upload/definition (mask, perspective transform, layer ordering), batch generation endpoint that returns ZIP of mockups, REST API to request mockups programmatically, progress/error reporting, and basic auth. Out of scope: a commercial template marketplace, billing/subscription UI, AI-credit systems, and priority support. Include error handling, input validation, unit tests for API endpoints, and CI deploy scripts for one VPS (or container) + S3-compatible storage.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Evidence score60

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
