Learning and careers decision
MockOfsted
A single competent developer can build a usable practice-inspection app (the core workflow) in a few weeks, but reproducing any vendor content, support, branding, or managed service quality would be harder; no durable moats are evident from the supplied page.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Allow a user to run practice inspections, store responses, and produce an inspection-style report.
What it still won’t have
- Existing brand trust and domain-specific content curated by the vendor
- Any proprietary templates, guidance or training materials bundled with the paid product
- Support, uptime guarantees, and any managed data compliance provided by the vendor
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal web application (Next.js + React frontend, Node/Express backend, Postgres database) that lets authenticated users load or create an Ofsted-style inspection checklist, run a practice inspection capturing answers and notes, save responses to Postgres, and export a formatted PDF report. In scope: user auth (email/password), CRUD for inspection templates, running inspections (answers + timestamps), report generation (HTML→PDF), and deployment scripts for Vercel/Heroku and a managed Postgres instance. Out of scope: training courses, paid billing system, integrations with third-party case management systems, and advanced analytics. Include error handling, input validation, unit tests for backend endpoints, and an end-to-end test for the inspection flow.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score56
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
