Mail Sweeper

A competent developer can build and operate a useful Mail Sweeper clone (Gmail OAuth + classification + unsubscribe + scheduled jobs) within a few weeks using existing libraries; the vendor's CASA certification and established user trust are the main things you'd give up.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Mail Sweeper alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Connect Gmail via OAuth, scan and classify messages into clutter categories, bulk-unsubscribe and delete selected messages, and run scheduled background sweeps.

What it still won’t have

  • Company reputation and trust (brand-trust and existing user base)
  • CASA certification / compliance attestation
  • Polished UX, analytics dashboard and usage history
  • Family plan billing/management and lifetime purchase handling
  • Any proprietary reliability/operational practices not documented on the site

What remains hard

  • Compliance and regulationOur application is also CASA certified.
  • Brand trustTrusted by 2,380+ Gmail users

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a self-hosted Gmail cleanup service using Node.js (Express) backend, Postgres for minimal metadata, a Redis queue for scheduled sweeps, and a React frontend. Core features in scope: Google OAuth2 login, read-only Gmail API integration to list messages, classification heuristics for promotions/social/attachments/mailing-lists, UI to show suggested cleanups and counts, one-click unsubscribe automation (navigate and POST to unsubscribe links or use List-Unsubscribe headers), bulk-move-to-trash and attachment-size reporting, and a scheduler to run automatic sweeps. Out of scope: CASA certification, multi-account family billing UI, advanced ML model training, and analytics beyond basic counters. Include error handling, retry logic for unsubscribe/link navigation, logging, unit and integration tests, and Dockerfiles to run the stack locally and in a small VPS.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
