Learn How To Draw - DrawBuddy
A single technical user can implement a usable drawing-lessons app (canvas, lessons, paywall) over several weeks, but reproducing the vendor's polished content, App Store traction, localization, and ongoing growth is nontrivial so keeping the paid product as-is is reasonable.
View on the App Store↗Not priced
No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.
$100one-off60 h to build
$0/mo3 h/mo upkeep
No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Open lesson → follow step‑by‑step drawing guide while tracing/sketching on a canvas with Apple Pencil support → store progress and reward XP/energy → unlock next lessons via subscription paywall.
What it still won’t have
- Polished App Store presence (ratings/reviews and platform-specific discoverability)
- Professional lesson content and breadth of categories
- Localization and existing userbase/engagement
- Analytics/marketing integrations and ongoing A/B improvements
- Developer support and update cadence handled by the vendor
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal iPad drawing lessons app in SwiftUI + UIKit for the canvas; use CoreGraphics/Metal for rendering. In scope: a responsive drawing canvas with Apple Pencil pressure and basic brushes, step-by-step lesson viewer (categories + search), local persistence of progress and gamification (energy, XP, streaks), StoreKit v2 in-app subscription flow (1-month, 3-month, 1-year), export-to-PNG, onboarding and settings. Out of scope: multi-user cloud sync, server-side lesson authoring, large content import pipeline, analytics dashboards. Include error handling for purchase failures, loss of file access, and tests for canvas rendering, lesson navigation, and StoreKit flows.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score56
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
