KoriQuest

A competent developer can build and maintain a useful iOS replacement (spaced repetition + simple pronunciation checks) within a few months of effort using existing open-source prior art; keep paying if you value the app's content breadth, polish, and App Store presence.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All KoriQuest alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Study new items, review via spaced-repetition, practice pronunciation with audio recording/comparison, and track progress locally.

What it still won’t have

  • Large existing userbase and brand recognition
  • Polished multi-language content pipeline and ongoing lesson creation
  • Cross-device cloud sync and backend analytics unless implemented
  • App Store marketing and reviews history

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build an iOS app using SwiftUI + Combine, Core Data (or SQLite) for local-first storage, AVFoundation for playback and recording, and StoreKit for subscriptions. In scope: SM-2 spaced-repetition scheduling, lesson/flashcard CRUD, review session UI, native slow/normal audio playback, record-and-compare flow returning a basic similarity score, offline-first persistence, App Store subscription handling, error handling, and unit tests for scheduling and audio flows. Out of scope: multi-language content pipeline, paid content creation, large-scale cloud sync (only provide optional CloudKit stub), and analytics dashboards. Include CI tests, basic accessibility tags, and clear receipt-restore flows.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
