Learning and careers decision

Groove Hiring

A single technical user can replace Groove Hiring's core ATS features (jobs, forms, candidate tracking) using common frameworks; OpenCATS is a ready prior-art option to self-host instead of rebuilding.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Post jobs, collect applicants via a form or imports, track candidates through a configurable hiring pipeline, share candidate records with teammates and attach notes/documents.

What it still won’t have

  • Managed candidate sourcing and sourcing specialists
  • Integrated third-party vetting (criminal/identity) unless separately contracted
  • Hosted careers page and optional job-broadcasting services unless self-implemented
  • Vendor customer support and uptime guarantees
  • Any proprietary optimizations or integrations offered by the vendor

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build an open-source minimal applicant tracking system (ATS) with a React frontend, Node.js/Express API, and Postgres database, containerized with Docker and deployable to a single DigitalOcean droplet. Core features in scope: public careers page and per-job posting pages (static SSR or simple CMS), customizable applicant form with file uploads, backend candidate CRUD with search and filters, configurable pipeline stages and UI to move candidates, team account management and basic role permissions, email notifications (use SendGrid or Mailgun), CSV import and basic email ingestion. Out of scope: integrated background/criminal checks, managed candidate sourcing, multi-tenant billing, advanced analytics. Include input validation, error handling, tests for API endpoints, and a README with deploy and backup instructions.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 2/2 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score56

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
