A capable technical user can build and maintain a one-user replacement in about a week; no durable moats shown prevent reimplementation.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. What a replacement has to do

  • Define wall dimensions, add and size frames/photos, auto-generate balanced layouts and hook coordinates, and export printable hang-maps.

What it still won’t have

  • Polished cross-platform mobile app store builds and branding polish
  • 100+ curated gallery-layout templates and inspiration gallery
  • Paid support and QA of an established commercial product
  • Any proprietary algorithms or small optimizations not documented on the site

What remains hard

  • Execution qualityThe only Gallery Wall App
  • Execution qualityOur unique algorithm calculates the precise coordinates for every hook, ensuring your art hangs perfectly the first time.

What we assumed

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a single-page web app (React + Vite) that runs client-side and requires no server: implement a scaled wall canvas, image upload (client-only, persisted to localStorage), drag-and-drop frame placement and resizing, an algorithm to auto-generate balanced multi-frame layouts with configurable gaps, compute exact hook/nail coordinates from frame dimensions and a hook-offset input, and export a printable PDF/PNG hang-map with measurement markers. Out of scope: user accounts, cloud sync, mobile app stores, curated template library. Include error handling for invalid dimensions/uploads, automated unit tests for layout and hook calculations, and end-to-end tests for the core flow.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Evidence score86

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
