FrondFrame

A capable developer can build a useful single-user replacement in about a week using existing LLMs and rendering libraries; FrondFrame's value is polish, templates, and product UX rather than unreplicable data or infrastructure.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All FrondFrame alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Upload source screenshots → chat with an AI prompt flow to choose layout/style → render multi-device screenshots → translate text → export assets.

What it still won’t have

  • Polish and iterative AI layout tuning of the hosted FrondFrame product
  • Workspace-style multi-run demo flow and built-in usage limits/plan management
  • Prebuilt library of templates and device frames maintained by the vendor
  • Analytics, team features, and higher-volume scaling optimizations

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Build a minimal self-hosted App Store screenshot generator using Node.js (Express), React for the UI, PostgreSQL for metadata, and S3-compatible storage (DigitalOcean Spaces or AWS S3). Core features in scope: 1) upload source screenshots and store originals; 2) chat-style prompt UI that sends user prompts to an LLM (e.g., OpenAI GPT) and receives layout/style instructions; 3) a template-based layout engine that composes and positions screenshots into multiple device-sized canvases (6.1", 6.5", 6.7"); 4) rendering pipeline that outputs PNG exports and ZIP bundles; 5) integration with a translation API or LLM-based translation to produce alternate-language text and reflow text bounding boxes; 6) simple auth (email) and a single-user projects list. Out of scope: multi-seat billing, team/collaboration features, advanced template marketplace, and analytics dashboards. Include input validation, error handling, unit tests for core layout and export functions, and an integration test that runs a full upload→generate→export flow. Provide Docker Compose for local development and a one-page deploy guide for DigitalOcean App Platform or AWS Elastic Beanstalk. Log all external API calls and surface human-readable errors for failures.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 3 cited sources+3
  • Price verified on pricing page+3
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score93

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
