Email and newsletters decision
EmailChecker
A competent developer can build a useful self-hosted alternative covering templates, AI pre-checks, domain checks and sending via a provider, but reproducing the vendor's deliverability infrastructure, warmed IP reputation, and large-scale inbox testing is not realistic without significant ops and ongoing cost.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All EmailChecker alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Send campaign -> AI pre-send spam/quality check -> schedule/send via SMTP provider -> track opens/clicks/bounces -> domain/auth health checks and reporting
What it still won’t have
- Global sending infrastructure and warmed IP pools / built-in reputation
- Deliberately-run deliverability tests across many mailbox providers at scale
- Guaranteed inbox placement or vendor-managed IP warm-up
- 24/7 operations support and on-call deliverability experts
- Any proprietary datasets or live reputational signals the vendor uses
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted email-marketing app in Node.js + React + Postgres that supports: (1) user login and single-account campaign creation, (2) WYSIWYG/email-template editor with variable substitution, (3) an API-backed AI pre-send scanner that calls an LLM (e.g., OpenAI) to return a spam-risk score and suggestions, (4) domain verification pages that check SPF/DKIM/DMARC/MX records, (5) a send worker that enqueues messages and sends via a provider API (Mailgun/Sendgrid) with bounce/webhook handling, (6) simple scheduling/automation (delayed send + one-trigger automation) and campaign analytics (opens, clicks, bounces) persisted in Postgres. Out of scope: building global sending infrastructure, IP warmup, multi-tenant billing, large-scale deliverability testing. Include error handling for provider failures, retries, and webhook validation; provide unit tests for API routes and an end-to-end integration test that simulates sending via the chosen SMTP provider sandbox.

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
