dialagram
A single developer can build a useful OpenAI‑compatible router that proxies several model providers and run it for internal use, but reproducing Dialagram's production polish, commercial agreements, and scale-ready hosting/billing is nontrivial.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All dialagram alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Accept OpenAI-compatible requests; route requests to multiple 3rd-party model providers; manage API keys and simple dashboard for subscribers; enforce subscription gating and basic usage accounting; log, proxy, and normalize model responses back to the client.
What it still won’t have
- Commercial agreements or volume discounts with model vendors
- Hosted scalability and SLA guarantees
- A polished customer-facing billing/subscription system and support
- Any proprietary routing optimizations or negotiated model allotments Dialagram may hold
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal OpenAI-compatible model router in Node.js (Express) + TypeScript, hosted on a single VPS (or Vercel/Cloud Run). Core features in scope: implement /router/v1 OpenAI-compatible endpoint, adapter modules for three external model providers (configurable via env vars), API key issuance and middleware, subscription gating (simple paid-flag toggle in a JSON file or SQLite), request/response normalization, request logging and trace IDs, and automated tests for request routing and adapter behavior. Out of scope: full billing provider integration, multi-tenant isolation beyond API keys, and advanced rate-limiting. Include error handling for provider failures, retries with backoff, and unit + integration tests; provide Dockerfile and deploy instructions.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- Evidence score60
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
