Design and diagrams decision
Decktopus
A competent engineer can build a useful, narrower Decktopus replacement (generation + export + basic branding) in about a week and maintain it cheaply, but recreating Decktopus's full polish, rehearsal agents, team features, and large user-facing product would require more work and ongoing investment.

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- User supplies topic or uploads file → call LLM to generate slide structure and text → render slides in-browser and store deck → export to PPT/PDF and allow basic edits
What it still won’t have
- Polished, proprietary UI/UX and ongoing design polish
- Integrated, multi-agent rehearsal coaching (Loop) with persistent memory
- Production-grade reliability, analytics, and enterprise features (RBAC, priority support)
- Auto-branding polish and built-in AI image generation tuning
- Customer support and curated template library
What remains hard
- Brand trust

4M+ people already switched

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted Decktopus-like service using Next.js (React) frontend, Node/Express backend, Postgres for storage, and OpenAI-compatible LLM API for content generation. Core features in scope: (1) accept a text prompt and optional file upload, (2) call an LLM to generate a slide sequence (title, body, suggested image prompts), (3) store and render editable slides in a browser-based editor, (4) extract brand colors/fonts/logo from a provided website URL and apply to slides, (5) export decks to PPTX (pptxgenjs or server-side conversion) and PDF, (6) a simple rehearsal mode that records audio and reports slide timing. Out of scope: multi-agent Loop coaching, enterprise RBAC, Zapier integrations, advanced analytics, and AI image generation (use external image API if needed). Include error handling, CI tests for API endpoints, and basic e2e test covering create→edit→export flow.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- 2 cited sources+1
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Evidence score56
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
