Design and diagrams decision

Convitede

A competent developer can reproduce the core editing, export and RSVP functionality, but matching Convitede's polished template library, bundled AI credits, and user-facing polish is costly—so building a narrow replacement is realistic but replacing the full paid product is not.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Convitede alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Pick a template → edit text/images in a browser canvas → (optional) run AI image transform → export high-res PNG/JPG/PDF or publish RSVP link

What it still won’t have

  • Large, professionally designed template catalog and ongoing design updates
  • Polished, mobile-optimized UX and cross-browser polish
  • Built-in subscription/payments handling and support workflows
  • Existing user base, reviews, and brand trust
  • Any proprietary AI model or bundled image-generation credits included by the vendor

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a self-hosted digital-invite editor: use React + TypeScript for frontend, Fabric.js or Konva for the editor canvas, Node.js (Express) backend, Postgres for metadata, S3-compatible storage for assets, and Puppeteer/headless Chromium for raster/PDF export. Core features in scope: template catalogue browsing and selection, WYSIWYG editor (text, fonts, image layers, basic transforms), image upload and server-side AI image-transform integration (call external image-model API), export to PNG/JPG and print-ready PDF with multi-up layout and crop marks, per-invite RSVP pages with unique links and a small admin dashboard to view responses, account registration and simple subscription flag (no payment gateway integration required). Out of scope: built-in payment processor integrations, large-scale CDN provisioning, analytics dashboards, team/collaboration features, and designer template creation. Require input validation, error handling, retries for external API calls, automated unit and integration tests for editor actions, export pipeline, RSVP flow, and a Dockerfile + deployment script to run on a single VPS.

How the score was reached

  • 4 cited sources+3
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score64

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
