Scheduling and meetings decision
Calday
A competent developer can build a useful self-hosted booking + payments workflow (booking page, calendar sync, Stripe, reminders) within a few weeks, but matching Calday's polish, mobile apps, support, and market presence is non-trivial—keeping the paid product is reasonable for users who want a turnkey, scaled solution.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Calday alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Publish a booking page, accept a booking + payment, sync the appointment to the provider's calendar, save client record, and send automated reminders.
What it still won’t have
- Polished mobile app and branded UX/hardening
- Large existing user base and reviews/market presence
- Advanced edge-case rules, marketplace discoverability, and support
- Built-in uptime/scale guarantees and multi-region infra
What remains hard
- Brand trust

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted scheduling service using Node.js (Express), React, PostgreSQL, Redis (optional), deployed on DigitalOcean; integrate Stripe for payments, Google/Outlook OAuth for calendar sync, SendGrid for email reminders and Twilio for optional SMS. In scope: public booking page with service definitions and availability rules, backend booking creation with conflict checks, Stripe payment flow, two-way calendar sync (create/delete events), client record storage and an admin UI to view/edit bookings and clients, automated email reminders at configurable times. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing/admin dashboard, mobile native app, analytics beyond basic counts. Include comprehensive error handling, retry logic for webhook/webhook signature verification, unit and integration tests for booking flow, and deployment scripts (Docker + Docker Compose).

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Evidence score63
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
