AI assistants and search decision

AskCory

A competent developer can reproduce the core workflow (LLM-driven tactics and PPT export) in a few weeks, but duplicating the vendor's benchmarks, team features, integrations, and polish would be costly—so building a narrow, self-hosted replacement is realistic, while fully replacing the paid product is only partly feasible.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All AskCory alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • User provides business/project inputs → orchestrate LLM prompts to produce tailored marketing tactics/content → enrich with simple benchmark data and metrics → render/export a formatted PowerPoint (PPTX) and PDF

What it still won’t have

  • Proprietary benchmark data and curated industry benchmarks claimed by AskCory
  • Team/workspace collaboration, multi-seat/team billing, and enterprise features
  • Private generations / vendor-managed privacy features and priority support
  • Perks and integrations with popular marketing providers
  • Branded, polished UX and ongoing feature releases from the vendor

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal AskCory replacement as a web app using Next.js (React) frontend, Node.js/Express backend, PostgreSQL for project storage, and OpenAI (or equivalent) API for LLM calls. Core features in scope: user project input form, prompt orchestration service to call LLM and parse structured marketing tactics, simple benchmark lookup (CSV-driven) to attach KPIs, programmatic PowerPoint (python-pptx or PptxGenJS) generation with branding and optional watermark, user auth (email/password + session), and a lightweight billing/credits table. Out of scope: multi-tenant enterprise features, paid integrations with marketing providers, advanced analytics dashboards, and training proprietary models. Include error handling for API failures, input validation, tests for orchestration and PPT generation, and deployment scripts (Docker + single VPS).

How the score was reached

  • Evidence score60

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
