AEO Checker
A capable developer can build a useful replacement (single-user AEO checker) within a week using existing SEO libraries and a model API; the vendor site shows no evidence of durable moats or proprietary data that would prevent DIY.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All AEO Checker alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Fetch a target URL or paste content → extract page text and metadata → run automated checks and scoring for Answer Engine / generative-output compatibility → generate human-readable recommendations and short rewrite suggestions → present a downloadable report in a simple web UI
What it still won’t have
- Polish and UX of a commercial product (analytics dashboards, onboarding flows)
- Any proprietary rules, datasets, or integrations the vendor may provide
- Hosted scale, uptime guarantees, and dedicated support
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance
First-year cost

Runnable build prompt
Build a lightweight AEO/Generative-Answer SEO checker using Node.js (Express) + React, Postgres (optional) and OpenAI-compatible model API. In scope: 1) endpoint to fetch and parse a supplied URL (follow redirects, extract title/meta/headers/visible text/JSON-LD), 2) server-side analysis jobs that compute readability, keyword density, snippet detectability, and a rules-based checklist, 3) integration with a model API to generate short rewrite suggestions and explanation text, 4) a single-page React UI to submit a URL or paste content and display score, checklist, and suggested rewrites, 5) export results as JSON and PDF. Out of scope: multi-user billing, enterprise integrations, continuous site scanning, and advanced analytics dashboards. Include error handling for network failures and invalid HTML, unit tests for parsers and scoring logic, and end-to-end tests for the main UI flow.

How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- Evidence score86
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
