Learning and careers decision
AbMaxx
A competent developer can recreate the tracking, routine-generation and progress UI in about a week using open-source fitness platforms and vision APIs, but reproducing the claimed proprietary AI abs analysis and polished native app experience would be difficult without the vendor's models and mobile polish.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All AbMaxx alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- User uploads a photo → server analyzes abs via vision model → server generates a personalized routine → user follows routines and uploads progress photos / reps → app stores progress and shows charts
What it still won’t have
- Proprietary AI model and any claimed 1,000‑point analysis
- Polished native iOS UX and App Store presence
- Tightly integrated rep counter/step counter using device sensors
- Existing user base, reviews, and gamified milestone network
- Any closed-source backend optimizations or analytics
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal web service (React frontend + Node.js/Express backend) that accepts a user chest/abs photo, runs a permissively licensed vision model or cloud vision API to extract simple abdominal/posture features, applies a rule-based routine generator to output a 4‑week core routine, and stores progress photos and workouts in Postgres; out of scope: mobile App Store packaging, trained proprietary models, payments. Include: user sign-up, photo upload to S3, a /analyze endpoint that returns a JSON assessment, a routine-generation module (deterministic rules + configurable templates), progress dashboard with before/after photo diff, unit tests for endpoints, error handling and retries for failed uploads, and CI to run tests.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- Evidence score60
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
