Websites and hosting decision
Unicorn Platform
A small technical team can build and maintain a narrower AI-assisted static-site builder; Unicorn's paid value is mostly polish, scale, and integrations rather than proprietary barriers, and open-source prior art shows the core is achievable.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Create a site from templates or prompts, edit content/sections in a visual editor, publish static site with SSL/CDN, connect custom domain, accept form submissions and payments.
What it still won’t have
- Polished, battle-tested editor UX and templates
- Scale and global CDN/SSL management out of the box
- Built-in integrations and partner deals
- Ongoing product polish, marketing and support channels
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal AI-assisted website builder using Next.js + React frontend, Node.js backend, Postgres, and S3 + CloudFront for hosting. In scope: (1) a visual editor to create/edit pages and sections and save site JSON to Postgres; (2) a template renderer that builds static HTML/CSS from saved site JSON; (3) an OpenAI-compatible integration to generate or update page content from user prompts; (4) a publish pipeline that exports static files to S3 and invalidates the CDN and provisions free SSL; (5) form submission handling (store in DB and send email) and Stripe payment integration. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing UI, marketplace, advanced theme editor, or WYSIWYG drag handles beyond basic add/edit/preview. Include error handling, input validation, access control for site owners, and automated unit/integration tests for editor API, renderer, publish pipeline, and AI integration.

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
