Writing and content decision
Trends.vc
A single developer can build and operate a minimal newsletter + gated reports product, but they cannot reproduce Trends.vc's existing audience, community, and brand-driven value without the incumbent's network and reputation.

No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Publish curated trend reports, send them as an email newsletter, and gate premium reports behind a paid membership.
What it still won’t have
- Established audience and trust of 54k+ founders
- Proprietary community dynamics (private founder community)
- Brand recognition and third-party endorsements/testimonials
- Any curated archives or content workflows not captured in the minimal tool
What remains hard
- Brand trust

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal Trends.vc replacement as a Next.js app (TypeScript) with Postgres (Supabase or Railway) and Vercel hosting. Core features in scope: 1) Admin UI to create/edit reports in Markdown, save HTML and metadata in Postgres; 2) Public pages to list/read reports with membership-gated routes; 3) Stripe integration for one paid plan and webhooks to update subscription status; 4) Newsletter scheduling to send report emails via SendGrid or SES; 5) Authentication (magic links) for members and admin roles. Out of scope: social/community features (forum/chat), analytics dashboards beyond basic page views, advanced content recommendation. Include error handling, retries for webhooks/email failures, background jobs for sends (e.g., BullMQ or Next.js background functions), automated test coverage for critical flows (auth, billing, webhook handling, email send), and CI deployment configuration.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score56
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
