Project and task management decision
Todo.is
A competent engineer can reproduce the core AI-assisted todo app using existing open-source projects and APIs in a multi-week build; running costs and maintenance are modest, so building is reasonable.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Todo.is alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Create, update, complete, and list tasks with optional AI-assisted suggestions
What it still won’t have
- Polish, UX and cross-platform native apps (iOS/Android)
- Built-in analytics and integrations not implemented
- Any proprietary AI behavior or bundled model the vendor provides
- Vendor support, uptime SLAs, and brand trust
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal Todo.is replacement: use React for a SPA frontend, Node.js + Express for the backend, and Postgres for storage. Core features in scope: user signup/login (email+password), create/read/update/delete tasks, mark complete, list tasks with filters, and an endpoint that calls an external model API to provide a one-paragraph task summary/suggestion. Out of scope: native mobile apps, advanced third-party integrations (Jira, GitHub), team/collaboration features, and paid billing. Include Dockerfiles, CI for tests and deployment, basic input validation, error handling, and unit+integration tests for API endpoints.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- Evidence score60
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
