The Next AI Tool

A small, SEO-first directory site is realistic for one capable developer to build and maintain in about a week; the main value the vendor has is audience and brand which are not hard technical barriers to reproduce.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Users discover AI tools via searchable listings, categories, and detail pages; admins add or curate tools.

What it still won’t have

  • existing domain authority, organic SEO and traffic
  • brand recognition and newsletter/subscriber base
  • any paid partnerships, affiliate integrations, or discounts
  • editorial archive and content history unless migrated

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Build a searchable AI-tools directory using Next.js (React) for the frontend, Postgres for storage, a small Node.js/Express or Next.js API layer, and S3-compatible storage for images. In scope: scraper to import and normalize tool pages (CSV import + basic web scraper), DB schema for tools/categories/tags, REST or GraphQL API with filtering/pagination, SEO-friendly listing and detail pages, admin UI to add/edit tools and upload images, RSS feed and subscription endpoint, CI/CD deployment to Vercel and S3 for assets. Out of scope: paid billing/affiliate payout systems, advanced editorial workflows, multi-tenant support. Include input validation, error handling, automated tests (unit + integration for API), and basic monitoring/alerts.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score83

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
